Online teaching is around the corner for all of us. We
can make teaching even better by pulling the best from the face-to-face
(sometimes written ftf) classroom as well as the best from the virtual
classroom.
Learning to use an LMS (Learning Management System) is important, so we'll do that
this semester. It allows secure access to grades and assignments and
allows only those with passwords to access the system. Login to your Moodle account by using your netID and password at http://umonline.umt.edu
If you
have not taken the UMOnline 101-Student course, do so, and save your
certificate in case another faculty member requests that. Update your
profile with a current photo. You may use the PhotoBooth on the Mac
computers to snap a photo of your head as you sit in front of the
computer if you so choose.
And write a reflection in your blog
this week about digital text, demonstrating that you have read Fryer
(2011) Chapter 2 Digital Text. Be sure to use APA format to cite your
documentation. Fryer makes the point that digital text just isn't enough without media links, so if you have any questions about inserting links into your blog or into a gadget, be sure to ask.
Finally, in class today, make a 30-second group
iMovie documentary with one other classmate. This should be humorous, a
public service announcement, to be posted to your blog. Include video,
audio, narration, and text. You should include the fair use statement on
your title slide and a reference slide at the end if you used any
materials from the Internet.
