This week, while we don't physically meet together in the computer lab, we will continue to learn about using technology directly applicable to the classroom and reflect on those opportunities. I'll make a list of the various assignments this week here, and email this message to all. Be sure to read both the class blog and the course moodle, as both have components for this week.
1. a)Read about virtual field trips at various sites including: http://www.eschoolnews.com/2013/04/07/ten-of-the-best-virtual-field-trips/?ps=51201-0013000000j0Bkw-0033000000q5WJW
b) Invite a peer in the class to take the same trip.
c) collaborate on a report on this field trip using Google Docs. This word processing document can be edited by multiple users at the same time, so with one document, you have co-written a report that then, when completed, you will each upload to your blog with the blog title: Virtual Field Trip Report. Your report should include appropriate grade level, subject area studied, have links to the actual field trip, your collaborative opinion of the experience and any suggestions for future use. Write with the intent for your peers to learn about whether or not they could use this field trip with their own students, or whether they should steer away from this trip. DUE 22 April at 4 PM.
2. Finish reading Fryer (2011). Write a blog entry on your blog about your thoughts on using video as a tool for student learning. This blog entry should only be as long as needed to make your point. DUE 22 April at 4 PM.
3. Complete your Google Earth Tour assignment and post to your blog. Title: Google Earth Tour. Due by 5 PM Monday, 22 April. The first hour of class will be for completing final details on the tour, answering your questions, etc.
4. Review the culminating assignment for this course, a Technofied Lesson (found in the syllabus). Begin planning the six components of that assignment with the presentation component due on May 6 beginning at 5:10 PM. You will want to demonstrate all the various applicable technologies from this semester, and may ask me all sorts of questions at any time. Be sure to review the rubric that you will complete to assess your project.
5. Write a blog about some technological application that you have learned about through reading, observing in the field, or just through discussions of appropriate technology in the classroom. Post to your own blog by Thursday, 18 April, midnight.
6. In the Moodle, http://umonline.umt.edu submit the assignment to the grade book that reflects on the middle third of the course. This assignment is worth 5 points of your participation grade. Share how successful you were on each of the assignments: WebQuest, Digital Video Movie, Podcast, and Smartboard Lesson. DUE 22 April at 4 PM.
Finally, remember that we are self-assessing our learning this semester, determining how much we are learning, where we need to learn additional material, asking questions towards that end, and making learning directly applicable to our future teaching students content in our teaching areas.
